Hair Care Favs

OUTFIT DETAILS

Hello, hi, hola, aloha! I get a lot of questions about my hair, what products I use, and what tools I use to style it. So today I am sharing my favorites!

My Hair Type

I have fine naturally curly hair and lots of it. A lot of people don’t realize how curly my hair is because I am constantly styling it, but let me tell ya it is CURLYYY. With the ability to have a natural curl, this helps me hold curls stronger and longer when I style my hair.

Favorite Hair Products

Since I style my hair, I want it to last as long as it can. I have trained my hair to be able to go 7-9 days between washes! I know it sounds gross, but washing your hair once a week has been a life changer! Want to know my secret? It comes down to three things. Products, care, and time.

Favorite Styling Tools

Since I have such curly hair, when I am styling it, a good blow dryer is necessary! I have tried several different ones and there is nothing like the T3 blowdryer! I can get my hair dried/blown-out a lot faster when using a T3 than any other blowdryer.

How I get My Hair to Last Longer In-between Washes

It all starts with a good wash! It is important to really clean your scalp well when trying to preserve your blowout/styled hair.

  1. First I always brush my hair before I hop into the shower. If I miss this step I am left with a tangly mess. I use a WetBrush hairbrush and I start at the ends of my hair and work my way up to detangle my hair.
  2. When washing my hair I use a good cleansing shampoo to get rid of any build up of dry shampoo and other products. Living Proof has a good clarifying shampoo that is cruelty-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, and is safe for color and chemically treated hair.  When washing your hair, it’s important to keep shampoo on your scalp, and to lightly scrub with your fingertips, not your nails! A lot of bacteria is trapped under your fingernails and the last thing you want is to end up scratching your scalp and infecting it from your own nails. Just lightly rub your scalp in small circular motions with the ball of your fingertips. Rinse gently by letting the soapy suds wash the rest of your lovely locks.
  3. If you have blond or highlighted hair, I highly recommend a purple shampoo to keep your hair from getting brassy. I use AG Hair’s color care shampoo and I love it! I incorporate this step into my routine every other wash because it can be quite drying.
  4. When I condition I apply the majority of the product to my ends and will comb it upwards, that way a small amount is used on my scalp. *I let it sit there for several minutes* (this is when I would be washing my body/exfoliating/shaving). The matching conditioner to the Living Proof Shampoo is very moisturizing and is also is cruelty-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, and is safe for color and chemically treated hair, plus it smells amazing (smells citrusy like the Capri Blue Volcano candle everyone is obsessed with. If you’ve walked into an Anthropology, its that sent! They always have them burning.)!
  5. This step technically falls in the previous conditioning step, but since it is VERY IMPORTANT it gets its own. I know it’s hard but when rising your conditioner out of your hair USE COLD WATER! This closes the hair follicles locking in the moisture you just added to your hair from the conditioner keeping.
  6. Once out of the shower, I gently dry my hair with a microfiber towel and start applying my hair products. I like to start with a moisturizing oil and then add my styling products following with a heat protectant and then I am ready to blow dry and style.
  7. BONUS TIP: Sleep on a silk pillowcase to really pro-long hair washes!

Training your hair to be less oily is long hard work, but with the right hair care steps, it can be obtainable! I hope you found this information useful! For more tips and tricks, check out my blog!

Love Always,
